Human Rights at Gitmo
Comments (1) Published January 12th, 2007 under GeneralThe outrage is not that we have a prison on the Cuban island. It’s not that we put some dangerous people out there. The outrage that a lot of people who are there don’t know why they are there. Since 9/11, our government has not charged many of them with a crime. They are just there under suspicion. The LA Times ran this op-ed piece from someone trapped there. I have no sympathy for terrorists–so if they are terrorists and if there is evidence, then let’s lock them up. But when these voices are exported from our country, we don’t look too hot when we’re trying to bring “justice” in other parts of the world. I want to believe “we’re better than them”… but are we?
