    10. Audacity

    Comments (2)

This is the beginning of a countdown of my ten favorite freeware applications that I use frequently. I have a PC with Windows XP, so I’m not sure whether they work for a Mac or for other version of windows.

It baffles my mind that a piece of software like Audacity is free. This is fantastic software for audio editing. I’m not a musician, so I don’t know what the needs of a musician would be (and whether Audacity can handle those needs), but for an amateur who is looking to splice and edit various songs and sounds, this software makes it simple and keeps it at great quality. I have used it to speed up lectures (the guy would sound like a chipmunk, but I can hear the lecture at a much faster rate), and to edit space in between songs (I did that with the Live 8 concert a couple summers ago that I recorded off of MTV/VH1).

This freeware does a lot more than for what I have used. If you have any sort of audio editing needs, Audacity is a fantastic program to use.

Audacity is ausome. There is a mac version as well and even though it doesn’t handle very long/large files very well, it has all the basic tools needed to tweak something. It sure beats paying $ for something!

I’m a musician and I love Audacity. It’s the swiss army knife of the digital audio world. Great when you have a small simple task to do and don’t want to unpack the whole toolbox to do it.
