The frontpage of the ESPN Tournament Challenge showed no love today. Here’s what they wrote
It’s tough to be a low seed. It’s even tougher to be a low seed with no fan support. The distinct honor of being the team with the least fan support goes to Cal State Northridge. The Matadors, who gave Memphis a true battle, were selected to win the national championship in only 309 brackets. Unfortunately, they won’t make those 309 people proud, but even the four 16 seeds were given more respect.
I’m proud to say that I’m one of the 309 people who had some faith in the 15 seed Matadors. It was a fantastic game and proud of the valiant effort of the Northridge team, that has suffered this season with two losses to their starting line up, in addition to the coach’s personal tragedy.
What is incredible about today’s game is that Roburt Sallie of Memphis put up some impressive stats. Had his numbers reflected his season average, there would have been 309 very happy people tonight.
Sallie’s season average is 4.9 points with 42% three point percentage. Today, he scored 35 points against Northridge and made 10 of his 15 attempts from the three point line.
