Day 1: Local Service, Global Impact

    Comments (none)

(This devotional series is inspired by seven quotes attributed to Henrietta Mears. Her life inspired a generation of men and women to let Scripture speak directly to their hearts for the sake of seeing the world transformed.)

There is no magic in small plans. When I consider my ministry, I think of the world. Anything less than that would not be worthy of Christ nor of His will for my life.

Implication: Ministry may call us to be faithful with the resources given to us, but our eyes and heart need to be set on how we are a part of a whole. God is at work in our world to transform our world. Our commitment and faithfulness to the local ministry is part of God’s global transformation.

Reflection: I want my life to count for great things. But at times I settle to believe that my ministry is barely a dent in the kingdom of God. I especially struggle as I compare my ministry to that of others and those who have a greater influence in the same context. Why should I continue ministering when another ministry seems to have a greater impact than I have?

This type of thinking is nothing but sin. When I am comparing myself to other leaders or ministers I am not only devaluing the work that God is doing in my life, but I am adopting the wrong posture toward the ministry to which God has called me.

Henrietta Mears saw her ministry in light of a global movement of God. Lord, give me the posture and humility to see my ministry in light of the great things you are doing in the world. And Lord, give me the eyes to see that I am your beloved Son, worthy of a ministry of great honor.

Application: Carry my ministry with the right posture, believing that my local acts of service and leadership are part of an eternal and global impact.
