    Day 3: Intimacy with Christ

    Comments (none)

(This devotional series is inspired by seven quotes attributed to Henrietta Mears. Her life inspired a generation of men and women to let Scripture speak directly to their hearts for the sake of seeing the world transformed.)

“The Christian life is not merely the remembrance of a historical Christ in the past, but it is fellowship with a living Christ—with us now.”

Implication: Too many people focus their Christian lives around a set of beliefs outlined in Scripture. Henrietta Mears reminds us that the Christian life is to fellowship with Christ today. Christ is with us. While remembering, knowing and believing in the historical Christ is important, it’s more than just that. We have the living Christ with us today.

Reflection: For me it’s easier to study Christ than to know him. It’s easier to just read and be intellectually curious about Christ than to be molded and formed by him. Jesus is not just a historical figure. Jesus is the living God who walks with me and informs me. My ministry comes out of being with Christ. My witness comes out of my fellowship with Christ. I evangelize not because I know some propositional truths about God, but because Jesus meets me every day and that his love available to others.

Application: Invest in a daily rhythm of seeking intimacy with Jesus.
